Indian students study in the Netherlands by getting into an English-taught program at a Dutch research university (WO) or university of applied sciences (HBO). You apply through Studielink. Your university then files your student residence permit with the IND, the Dutch immigration service.
Tuition for non-EEA students runs from about €9,000 to €26,000 a year. The IND wants proof of €13,569.24 for living costs in 2026. Add the pieces and year-one cost lands near €27,000 to €38,000, about Rs.30 to Rs.42 lakh.
The university also arranges your MVV and VVR. The IND fee is €254 and you collect the MVV sticker in India. The NL Scholarship pays €5,000. You can work 16 hours a week with a permit and a 12-month Orientation Year follows graduation.

The housing shortage
The Netherlands has a student housing shortage called Kamernood. Universities often help first-year international students, but housing is not guaranteed. Without a registered address, you cannot get a BSN (citizen service number), open a bank account or finish health insurance. Ask your university about housing the day you accept your offer.
Part-time income
A job at 16 hours a week pays about €1,040 gross a month at the €14.99 minimum wage. That assumes you are 21 or older and get steady hours. Under-21s earn less. Treat it as a bonus.

Engineering in Netherlands
Engineering in Netherlands centers on the 3TU group: TU Delft, TU/e in Eindhoven and the University of Twente. TU Delft sits in the global top 50. It teaches aerospace, civil engineering, computer science and sustainable energy. TU/e lies inside the Brainport Eindhoven tech region and works with ASML, NXP and Philips on AI, embedded systems and electrical engineering. Twente offers engineering in Enschede, one of the cheapest student cities. Graduates find demand in chip making, software and green infrastructure.
MBA in Netherlands
The MBA in Netherlands costs a lot. The full-time MBA at Erasmus University's RSM charges €70,000 for the January 2027 start, about Rs.77.7 lakh before living costs. For most families, a one-year specialized MSc in finance, management or supply chain makes more financial sense. Erasmus and the University of Amsterdam both run strong business master's programs. Choose a full MBA only if you have work experience and a clear salary jump in mind. Business graduates move into corporate finance, consulting, supply chain and product management.
Hospitality Management in Netherlands
Hospitality management in Netherlands mixes business classes with real hotel work. Hotelschool The Hague runs two campus hotel labs and offers a bachelor's and a master's in hospitality. Breda University of Applied Sciences focuses on sustainable tourism and destination management. NHL Stenden teaches hospitality and events through student-run businesses. Netherlands intakes
September is the main intake. February has far fewer programs. Non-EEA students need time for visas, so universities set early dates.

Netherlands Scholarships for International Students
Dutch scholarships help, but few cover everything. The NL Scholarship pays €5,000 once. University awards can pay more, yet they are partial or very competitive.

What changed
- Utrecht ended its Excellence Scholarship from 2026-27 because of budget cuts.
- The central Orange Tulip Scholarship run through NESO India is reported closed since 2024. Some universities still offer their own awards, so check each university's page.
Leiden says LExS winners still must show proof of funds for their visa. Plan for the same at other universities.
Netherlands Student Visa for Indian Students
Indian students need two documents for stays over 90 days. The MVV is an entry visa. The VVR is a residence permit for study. Your university applies for both with the IND, so you do not file the application yourself.

Work Rights, Orientation Year and Career ROI
You may work 16 hours a week during term and full time during June, July and August. Your employer must hold a work permit (TWV) for you. You can also work as a self-employed person without a TWV.
The minimum wage is €14.99 an hour gross for age 21 and older (from 1 July 2026). Sixteen hours a week earns about €1,040 gross a month.
Orientation Year
After graduation, you can apply for the 12-month Orientation Year (zoekjaar). Apply within three years of finishing your degree. It lets you look for a job, work or start a business and no employer sponsor is needed. A one-year master's plus this year gives you up to two years in the country on one year of tuition.
Highly skilled migrant permit
A recognized sponsor can move you to a highly skilled migrant permit (kennismigrant). Recent graduates qualify for a reduced salary rule of €3,122 gross a month. The standard bar in 2026 is €4,357 under age 30 and €5,942 at 30 and older.
