Is It Mandatory To Learn German Language?


In order to get admission in a German university, knowing German language becomes an important element in some of the degree programs. Exams like TestDaF and DSH are conducted in order to verify your German language proficiency. For this, the best way to learn German language easily is with the help of taking basic German language lessons, YouTube tutorials, attending German language course, etc.

There are universities that do not require the candidate to know German language if the duration of course is just 1 to 2 semesters. However, every university has different set of rules. So, it is considered better to inquire from the university itself.

TestDaF:


TestDaF, or Test Deutsch ALS Fremdsprache, is a test for foreign students who wish to pursue higher education in Germany.

Further, you can give this test in your own country. It consists of comprehension, speaking and writing exam, reading comprehension, etc. out of which students are given grades in the form of levels such as TDN 3-5.

DSH:


The DSH test is different from Test DaF in so manners. It has to be given only in Germany. It is taken by the university you’ve applied to. The grading system, too, is different from the former one.

  • Both the TestDaF and DSH charge fees though the fee structures vary.
  • TestDaF can be given in one’s own country and is conducted in about 95 countries around the globe. Whereas DSH needs to be given in the university one has applied to.
