Your Chance to get an MBBS Seat in Andhra Pradesh

The most difficult time for any of the students is to wait after NEET till the counseling process to know whether he/she is getting a college of his/her choice or not? Sometimes this dilemma continues for a couple of months due to multiple rounds of counseling. It has become more difficult due to parallel counseling of All India Quota and various States due to COVID-19. The counseling process is very complex where 550+ Govt. and Private colleges offer 83000+ Seats and fee variation is also huge that ranges from less than 1 Lac to 2.5 Cr for the course.

Dreams shatter when any silly mistake in choice filling or wrong selection of college leads to getting a poorly ranked college. Imagine getting paid seats or no seats at all due to a lack of genuine guidance!

MOKSH AI-based MBBS college predictor predicts your chances of getting an MBBS seat in Andhra Pradesh State Medical colleges in All India Counselling NEET-UG 2024 and Andhra Pradesh State Counselling NEET-UG 2024 under various Seat categories like Govt., Management, or NRI Seat. FAQs

For the upcoming academic session, Andhra Pradesh offers approximately 7,215 MBBS seats across 39 medical colleges. This includes 3,415 seats in 19 Government Medical Colleges and 3,800 seats in 20 Private Medical Colleges. The state also contributes 599 seats to the All India Quota (AIQ).

The Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences (Dr. YSRUHS) is the official authority responsible for conducting Andhra Pradesh NEET UG counseling. Candidates must register on their official website (ntruhs.ap.nic.in) to participate in the state quota seat allotment.

MBBS education in AP government colleges is highly subsidized. The annual tuition fee ranges from ₹11,000 to ₹61,000 depending on the specific institute. For example, colleges like Andhra Medical College and Guntur Medical College typically charge around ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 per year.

Private medical seats in Andhra Pradesh are classified into three categories:

  • Category A (Convenor Quota): Government-subsidized seats for state residents.
  • Category B (Management Quota): Seats open to eligible candidates from AP and other states, with higher fees.
  • Category C (NRI Quota): Reserved for NRIs, with fees paid in US dollars or equivalent.

The annual tuition fee for Category B (Management Quota) seats generally ranges between ₹12,00,000 and ₹13,50,000. For instance, colleges like Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Narayana Medical College charge approximately ₹13.2 Lakhs per annum for this category.

The AU Region covers districts including Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Guntur, Krishna, and Prakasam. Candidates domiciled in these districts are eligible for the 85% local area reservation in colleges located within this region.

The SVU Region includes the districts of Chittoor, Ananthapur, Kurnool, Kadapa, and Nellore. Students from these areas have local candidate status for government seats in colleges like Kurnool Medical College and S.V. Medical College, Tirupati.

In the previous session, Andhra Medical College—the top state college—had a cutoff score of approximately 537 for the Open Category. For reserved categories, the cutoffs were roughly 529 for BC-A and 488 for SC candidates.

Yes, Category C seats are reserved for NRI candidates. The fee for these seats typically ranges from ₹30 Lakhs to ₹40 Lakhs per annum. Top colleges like NRI Medical College, Guntur and Alluri Sitaram Raju Academy offer these seats.

Andhra Pradesh follows a specific sub-categorization for Backward Classes (BC). Reservations are divided into BC-A, BC-B, BC-C, BC-D, and BC-E groups. Each group has a specific seat matrix and cutoff score. For example, BC-E (Muslim Minority) candidates often have distinct cutoffs compared to BC-A or BC-B.

Yes, students from other states can apply for Category B (Management) and Category C (NRI) seats in private medical colleges. However, the Category A (Government Quota) seats are strictly reserved for Andhra Pradesh domicile holders.

Based on 2025 trends, General/Open category students should aim for a NEET score above 500-510 to secure a seat in a government college. Reserved category students (SC/ST) may secure admissions with scores in the 400-440 range depending on the college.

Some of the most reputed private institutions include:

  • Narayana Medical College, Nellore
  • GSL Medical College, Rajahmundry
  • NRI Medical College, Guntur
  • Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences, Chittoor These colleges are known for their infrastructure and high patient flow.

With over 57,000 applicants competing for roughly 3,400 government seats, the statistical success rate is approximately 5.9%. This makes the competition high, requiring strategic counseling choices.

Minority colleges like Nimra Institute of Medical Sciences (Muslim Minority) and Fathima Institute of Medical Sciences generally charge ₹15,000/year for Category A seats. Their Category B seats are priced around ₹13.2 Lakhs/year, similar to non-minority private colleges.

Andhra Pradesh is not fully open for MBBS admissions. Government quota seats are reserved mainly for state domicile candidates under the local area reservation system. However, students from other states can apply for management (Category-B) and NRI (Category-C) seats in private medical colleges if they qualify NEET-UG and participate in state counselling.
